After serving 24 years in the U.S. Air Force and retiring as a full Colonel in 2012, Rick was recruited into Hospital Administration and served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples, Florida. For 4 years he was directly responsible for all day-to-day operations of the entire hospital which also included planning, budgeting, staffing, and physician recruitment. He directly supervised 13 different departments–including Radiology, Cardiopulmonary, Laboratory, Wound Care, Sleep Lab, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Respiratory, Food & Nutrition, Facilities, and Environmental Services. Also, led the design, construction, and supervised the hospital’s Walk-In Clinic, Rehab Center, and Primary Care offices on Marco Island… as well as overseeing the design, construction, and opening of another Walk-in Clinic and Primary Care office in East Naples.
Previous to his Medical Center COO role, Rick was a senior Air Force officer commanding in leadership positions worldwide and serving in over 80 countries. His assignments included Germany, Hawaii, the Pentagon, multiple positions in Europe, Asia, and NATO Headquarters. He served as a Commander on Andrews Air Force Base supporting the President and all Air Force One missions, and then led a multi-national NATO unit at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, responsible for the operations of 26 nations. He was also the Deputy Base Commander of Eglin Air Force Base, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida… the Department of Defense’s largest military base. He then was selected as Base Commander of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, responsible for all support to the 25-square mile installation and the Academy (Rick is also a 1988 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy).
Prior to joining Physicians Regional Medical Center as COO and in his final military role, he was Director of Personnel for U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska–overseeing all Human Resource programs for the United States’ nuclear and space forces. He has worked for two U.S. Presidents, General Norman Schwarzkopf, and was also the Aide to an Air Force 4-star General for three years.
Rick departed Physicians Regional in October 2016 after serving as COO for 4 years to focus on his consulting firm. As President of RJL Consulting Team, his company offers strategic & operational consulting expertise to maximize business revenue, volume, efficiency, and performance… specializing in Healthcare, Government & Military Acquisition/Contracting, Construction, Security, Cyber, Energy/Environmental, Retail Businesses, and Performance Improvement.
